Sea Safari Cruises is a daughter company of Pt. Rejeki Abadi Sakti, which has been leasing tugboats and supply vessels to the oil companies operating in Kalimantan for over thirty years. Its founder and chairman is Mr. Zainal Abidin. Zainal is the archetypal self made man who started with nothing and build up a shipping company totally from scratch.
The idea of building traditional wooden Phinisis for tourism occurred to him first in the mid eighties and started as a hobby. At this point, although semi-retired, Zainal still involves himself actively in the designs and the construction of the vessels. Although his latest brainchild, Sea Safari VIII, has only just made her maiden voyage in September 2004, Pak Zainal has already started thinking about his next projects.
